The D900F Panther-i7, says Eurocom (Nepean, ONT), is a notebook that can handle demanding engineering and visualization workloads and, through its support of Windows Server 2008, function as a server for many small- and mid-sized businesses. As its name implies, the D900F Panther-i7 supports Intel’s i7 series microprocessors, including the Extreme Edition i7-975 (3.33GHz) as well as Xeon 55xx series processors, each with 8MB of L3 cache for high-speed multitasking and multithreaded performance. Supported bus speeds range from 4.8GTps up to 2x 6.4GTps. It supports as well as up to 2 TB of storage (four physical SATA-300 hard drives), RAID 0/1/5, 24GB RAM, and a variety of NVIDIA graphics accelerators.
"The D900F Panther-i7 is one extremely fast notebook that offers server- or workstation-caliber capabilities,” said Mark Bialic, president of Eurocom, in a press release. “It is designed to replace traditional desktop-based workstations. It offers incredible, high ROI by allowing companies to be more productive and offer new ‘on the go’ CAD/CAM services while greatly reducing overall IT management costs.”
Standard features include a 17-in. WUXGA 1920 x 1200 or WSXGA+ 1600 x 1050 LCD display; 102-key full size keyboard with separate numeric keypad; built-in battery; high-capacity optical re-writable Blu Ray drive storage; and WLAN 802.11a/g/n and Bluetooth 2.0 wireless communications. I/O ports include FireWire, serial, parallel, DVI, S-Video In, media card readers, optical digital and analog audio I/O, and up to five USB 2.0 ports. Additionally, the Panther-i7 offers an on-board Gigabit Ethernet port and, if required, a second Gigabit Ethernet can be added via Express Card expansion slot.
The D900F Panther-i7 measures 15.8 x 11.9 x 2.05 inches and weights under 12lbs. In addition to Windows Server 2008, the D900F Panther-i7 supports such 64-bit operating systems as Red Hat Linux, Windows XP Professional-64, and Vista. Open Solaris is under testing and will be supported soon, according to the company. Base system pricing begins at approximately $3,100.
